Advisory / Controversies Committee

Advisory Committee Overview:

The Executive Committee annually appoints an Advisory Committee that is composed of one member from each county of the State and two members representing non-public schools.  Members of the Advisory Committee are not members of the Executive Committee and the term for each member of the Advisory Committee is one year.  The appointments are made on an equal distribution of athletic directors, principals, and superintendents.

The Advisory Committee meets in December of each year to review proposals to change the Association’s Constitution, Bylaws or Rules and Regulations.  Proposals that are endorsed by the Advisory Committee are then forwarded to the Executive Committee for their consideration.  Proposals rejected by the Advisory Committee may be submitted to the Executive Committee with the endorsement of twenty (20) member schools no later than April 1st of each year.

Controversies Committee Overview:

Members of the Controversies Committee shall be members of the Advisory Committee.  The Executive Director and President have the authority to refer matters to the Controversies Committee for a hearing when there is an alleged violation of the Association’s sportsmanship policy or the Association’s Constitution, Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Policies and Procedures or Tournament Regulations.  The Controversies Committee may impose penalties and fines based on the findings of a committee hearing.   Parties involved in a Controversies Committee hearing may appeal the decision rendered to the Executive Committee at the next available meeting date.
