Eve Miller is an extremely active student at Kent Place in Summit. In addition to serving a variety of roles within her school, the junior is also a three-sport athlete.
Playing field hockey in the fall, ice hockey in the winter and lacrosse in the spring has made her cognizant of the issues facing high school athletes. And when she learned about the creation of the NJSIAA Student Athlete Advisory Council earlier this year, she was eager to apply for one of the Student Ambassador positions. Eve was then one of the 31 students from throughout the state who were selected to serve as Student Ambassadors.
“I was interested in becoming a Student Ambassador because I find that there are a lot of issues surrounding athletics that many people are unaware of,” she said. “I thought this was the perfect opportunity to address these issues and try to make a change.
“I am hoping the SAAC can address issues surrounding the health of student athletes, mentally and physically,” she said. “I hope that we will be able to make changes to the issues that many student athletes face every day.”
Getting to know Student Ambassador Eve Miller:
What’s the biggest challenge in being a three-sport athlete? “I find the biggest challenge of playing three sports is being able to find a balance. It has taught me a lot about time management and I have learned, with time, how to balance my work with sports. Another struggle is finding a time to rest, since seasons usually start right after the other.”
Do you find any similarities in the sports that you play? “I play field hockey and ice hockey and I have found that my field hockey stick work has helped my ice hockey stick work. That was really helpful when I first started to play ice hockey.”
