NJSIAA Initiating Educational Programs

In light of the recent hazing allegations at Sayreville War Memorial High School, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) is initiating multiple programs to address the subject of intimidation and violence within the sphere of scholastic athletics. These will include development of an informational, online toolkit featuring best practices, like the National Federation of State High School Association Web site's "Hazing" section; a professional development session in Atlantic City scheduled for March 2015; and increased use of such technology as Google Hangouts and the Ustream platform for streaming video to further educate association membership, parents, educators, and students. In addition, the NJSIAA will share hazing-prevention information during various November and December meetings, and is currently gathering expert input from New York University's Sports & Society program.
