Established record in 1988 as New Jersey’s winningest high school wrestler with 126-6 record.
Sam Mills - Graduate of Long Branch High School. Played professional football for Carolina Panthers and was the first Panthers player to be inducted into Carolina Panthers Hall of Honor. In his three years with the Panthers, Sam record a team record of 355 tackles in addition to ten sacks, six fumble recoveries and seven interceptions. He played fifteen years as a professional, appearing in his final Pro Bowl in 1996.

Pierce G. Frauenheim - Served as Director of Athletics at Immaculata High School since 1962 and Football Coach since 1966. Initiated all athletic programs at Immaculata beginning with basketball and baseball in 1962. First recipient of John F. Bateman “Winners for Life” award which is presented to high school coach in recognition of extraordinary service to American youth in 1999. In 2000, presented Bill Wade “Unsung Hero Award” for outstanding performance to chosen profession presented by the All American Football Association.
Howard T. Irvine - (posthumously)Football Coach and Athletic Director at Collingswood High School, 1919 - 1948. In his thirty-year career as football coach compiled a 223-57-16 record, winning sixteen Sectional Championships. Last undefeated Collingswood football team in 1948. “Skeets” helped establish and expand the scope of high school football in South Jersey.
Charlie Lee - Charlie Lee has been involved since 1948 in officials chapters, serving not only as an official (55 years as an high school official) but also as a board member on the chapter and state level. He was invited to Russia in 1992 to train baseball and softball umpires. Received Certificate of Recognition in 1987 from NISOA and Merit Award from the New Jersey College Soccer Association in 1985. Assignor for NJSIAA Boys Soccer and Baseball Tournaments.

Russell W. Spicer - Served Haddonfield Memorial High School as athletic director, 25 years, head football coach, 21 years, and JV football coach, 5 years. As head football coach at Asbury Park (1946-65), overall record of 108 wins, 54 loses, 20 ties; won three sectional titles, several Central Jersey titles and1953 team was undefeated.
Bruce Elia - Included among the many high school records held at Cliffside Park - most yards gained in 1970 (226 yards rushing), most points scored in 1969 (122 points in nine games); most touchdowns scored in 1969 (seventeen touchdowns in nine games). Attended Ohio State University, 1971-75, played in three Rose Bowl Games. Drafted in 1975 by Miami Dolphins, traded to San Francisco 49ers, retired in 1980. Chris Donfield - Retired basketball coach from Bergen Catholic High School after thirty-four years with overall record of 648-220, most wins by any coach in Bergen County – won two New Jersey Parochial Championships, reaching the sectionals fourteen times in last twenty-two seasons. Recipient of Howard Bollerman Award for Distinguished Service.
John Francis Fitzpatrick - (posthumously)Retiring in 1969, John was South River High School’s first athletic director, instrumental in developing an athletic program. During his forty-eight year career as baseball coach with a winning percentage of .760 he earned five Middlesex County titles, fifteen Central Jersey championships, coached three undefeated teams. He was honored by the DAANJ.
William J. Gordon - (posthumously)Head football coach at Rancocas Valley Regional High School 1953 – 1982 compiling record of 151-105-16. Member of National Football Foundation Hall of Fame, South Jersey Football Hall of Fame, New Jersey Football Coaches Hall of Fame. Active with Brooks Irvine Football Club of Southern New Jersey.
Leonard Klepack - Head track coach for both boys and girls at Columbia High School (retired). Over forty county championship teams, more than twenty individual state champions. Indoor and outdoor track teams have won numerous state titles, setting two national records and three state records. Star-Ledger Coach of the Year twice; Star-Ledger Coach of the Century; Worall Newspaper Coach of the Year. Also a noted official, Leonard Klepack worked at the Millrose Games for twelve years.
Gary Wayne Kehler - Westfield athletic director for twelve years (1982-1994). Twenty-two years as football coach with nine undefeated seasons, attained record of 172-26-7, winning seventeen conference championships, nine state championships. As wrestling coach for twenty-four years attained record of 232-37-10, winning fourteen conference team championships and sixteen state district championships. Record as golf coach (twenty-five years) was 324-40-6. Served on NJSIAA Golf Committee and Ad Hoc Football Clinic.
Maria Nolan - Head volleyball coach at Secaucus High School for twenty-seven years. Overall coaching record 520-69, winning sixteen state titles, sixteen league championships, fifteen county championships, and eight undefeated seasons. Past president NFCA. NJSIAA/NJSCA committees include Sportsmanship Summit, Volleyball, Volleyball Clinic and All-Star Games. Co-founder of Hudson County Volleyball Coaches Association, serving as president 1983 – 2002. Star-Ledger Coach of the Nineties and Volleyball Coach of the Year. Inducted into Secaucus Hall of Fame in 1996.
Lester H. Purvere -(posthumously) Coached baseball, basketball, and soccer at Weehawken High School. Helped to pioneer the Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic Association. Record of 536-282 as basketball coach, winning three conference championships, seventeen sectional titles, eight state group championships. Introduced fast break offense which had a major impact on high school basketball. Charter member of Hudson County and Weehawken High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Robert W. Sterling - Served thirty years as athletic director at Piscataway High School. Invited to officiate basketball at the Pan American Games, Central American Championships, South American Championships. Inducted into Panzer College Hall of Fame and Newark Hall of Fame. James M. Barlow - Entering ninth year as men’s soccer coach at Princeton University. In 1987 Jim was the top soccer recruit for the Princeton University Class of 1991; voted Ivy League Rookie of the Year at end of his freshman season. During his college tenure, team won Ivy League Championship for the first time in 28 years. Earned First Team All-Ivy honors three times and was Princeton’s first-ever Ivy League Player of the Year during his senior year. Integral part of local, regional and national Olympic Development Programs.
Reggie Carney - Attended college on baseball athletic scholarship, selected to All Conference. Drafted by Kansas City Royals and Cincinnati Reds. Girls’ head basketball coach at East Brunswick High School until the conclusion of the 2003 season. One of the most successful coaches in New Jersey, coaching since 1977/78, with a record of 597 – 97. Fifty-six players under his tutelage have received athletic scholarships. Selected Coach of the Year for State of New Jersey and entire USA in 1986.
Toni Fortunato Shickolovich - Star-Ledger Softball Player of the Century. Athlete of the Year in 1992 by Daily Record, Daily News, Star-Ledger. High school softball team won three Group I State Championships – 1989, 1990, 1992. Inducted into National Italian-American Hall of Fame. Three times MVP in Morris County Tournament. At Yale, Division 1 NCAA Academic All-American, first team Ivy League in 1993. Holds best pitching record in New Jersey, 80-1. Whippany Park High School valedictorian in 1992.

Frank J. Cicarell - Member of Elizabeth Board of Education for fifty-three consecutive years. Coached football – winning five Central Jersey Group IV Championships; swimming and baseball. Ernest J. Finizio - Served as NJSIAA Wrestling Tournament Director for twenty years, expanding competition from 4 mats to 8 mats, 96 participants to 316. As NJSIAA Assistant Director developed souvenir programs for all sports. Developed an NJSIAA Corporate Committee, expanded corporate partnerships. Active in the development and expansion of the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association. Inducted into National Wrestling Hall of Fame and NJSCA Hall of Fame.
Jane Hansen - Active official in two distinct areas of women’s sports at both the high school and collegiate level. Field hockey official since 1963, serving as State Rules Interpreter since 1980. National Rules Interpreter 1990-2001. Recipient of National Federation Officials Award which is presented for longstanding and distinguished record of promoting officiating at the local and state level. Served on National Federation Lacrosse Rules Committee 1999-2002. Lacrosse State Rules Interpreter 1990-2002. Inducted into New Jersey Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1997. Officiated at State Finals in both field hockey and lacrosse.
Franklin Walker - Participated in football and basketball at Ferris H.S. – 1966-1970. Joseph W. Scott - As a junior, Joe led Toms River High School football team to the South Jersey Group IV Championship, making First Team All-County in football and basketball. As a senior, he led the football team to its first Conference Championship, becoming First All-County and All-Shore. A four-term letterman at Princeton University, earning All-Ivy League honors in his junior and senior years and served as assistant basketball coach at Princeton for eight seasons; top assistant from 1996-2000 when the Tigers finished 163-61, and reached the NCAA tournament three times. The 1998 team finished 27-2, ranked No. 7 nationally and earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA tournament – highest ever for an ivy league school. In 2000, men’s basketball coach at the Air Force Academy whose team in 2003-04 finished best season in school history, reaching the NCAA tournament for first time in 42 years. Named MWC Coach-of-the-Year and National Association of Basketball Coaches District 13 Coach-of-the-Year, 2003-04. In 2004, Joe was named head men’s basketball coach at Princeton University.

Patrick scored 2,546 points in his 4-year high school basketball career. Dr. Arthur C. Argauer - Head football coach at Kearny High School for 9 years; head football coach for 18 years at Garfield High School, where his teams compiled 113-46 record, winning four Bergen County League Championships, five Passaic Valley Conference Championships, six NJSIAA Sectional Titles, two NJSIAA State Championships and one National Scholastic Championship. Dr. Argauer’s basketball record remains the best in Garfield High School history. His 22 consecutive wins is still a Garfield record. In 12 years, his record was 130 – 48. Dr. Argauer was an outstanding teacher, coach and administrator, who was very involved with NJSIAA until his death in 1985.
John A. Casadia, Jr. - Swimming coach at Vineland High School; he amassed a record of 244-15 as a boys’ coach, and a record of 233-55-1 as the girls’ coach for a career record of 477-70-1 at present.
